25 Themes In Coaching: No. 3 Carrying Old Wounding Messages
Is there a message from your childhood that you’ve carried with you into adulthood even though it holds no truth?
Carrying old messages is a common theme that I see coming up often in my coaching practice. If you’re familiar with the Enneagram, each of the 9 Types has their own wounding message. I won’t list them all here, but a few of the messages are:
-“It’s not ok to make mistakes.”
-“It’s not ok to to have your own needs.”
-“It’s not ok to have your own feelings and identity.”
Do you notice how when those messages are spoken over us as children, it’s very easy to carry them with us even though they hold no truth at all? Working with a coach, especially one who is experienced in the Enneagram can help you to uncover these old wounding messages and start you on a path to speaking the truth over yourself.
More often than not, these messages are coming from the insecurities of the person speaking them and have nothing to do with us at all. If you’re able to easily identify a wounding message in your life, ask yourself these questions:
-”What is true about that message now?”
-”What do you get out of holding on to that message?”
Like I mentioned above, each of the 9 personality types has their own wounding message. If you’d like to dive deeper into learning your Enneagram and how it can create self awareness and heal the things that are untrue, follow this Enneagram Flow and we’ll set up a time to chat.
